RANGE USE

Events scheduled with the club have first priority for range use. In the case of club leagues/matches, efforts will be made to leave four shooting positions open for general use. Members are free to use the range during normal operating hours when no events are scheduled PROVIDED there is a range safety officer present.

RIFLE/PISTOL RANGE HOURS

• Summer Hours Schedule (Begins on the first Monday in April)

  • Monday-Saturday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

  • Sunday 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

• Winter Hours Schedule (Begins in the first Monday in November)

  • Monday-Saturday 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

  • Sunday 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Range Safety Officer (RSO) must be present for members to shoot.

The Rifle/Pistol Range may not be open during inclement weather or where temperature is below 35 degrees. RSO's range safety commands are to be obeyed at all times. The RSO makes all final decisions regarding range use. If you have any issues, questions or concerns please contact the Chief Range Safety Officer or Board Of Directors.

GENERAL RANGE SAFETY

1. Eye and ear protection should be worn at all times while at the range. Anyone in the firing line area under the covered roof must always wear eye and ear protection while the range is "hot" under live fire.

2. There is to be no movement or firing in front of the red line painted on the pavement ahead of the firing position benches.

3. During a "cease fire", all firearms are to be unloaded and the actions locked open.

4. No one is allowed forward of the firing line unless the line has been declared safe by the RSO on duty and the red lights have been turned on.

5. Once on the firing line, a firearm must be pointed down range at all times. This includes firearms that are laying on the bench.

6. If there is a misfire, be sure to keep the muzzle down range for at least 30 seconds.

7. After a misfire or jam, the firearm must be cleared. If it cannot be safely cleared, the firearm must be removed from the range property as quickly and safely as possible.

8. Smoking is not allowed near benches where muzzle loaders are being used.

9. Always obey the Range Safety Officer's range commands. If there is a dispute, the RSO's decision is immediately to be followed. A member may choose to follow up on the dispute/issue at a later time by contacting the Chief Range Safety Officer or Board of Directors.

PERMITTED FIREARMS

Any legally owned and legal to own firearm in safe operating condition is permitted for use on the range. This necessarily means that some shooters will require more proficiency and experience than others. This is particularly true with fully automatic weapons fire. No one under the age of fifteen years is allowed to operate fully automatic firearms. In other regards any pistol, rifle, shotgun and muzzle loaders may be used.

TARGETS

The shooter will supply his/her own targets but may use a club provided target stand and backer. Target stand/backer use is free. To decrease the likelihood of ricochets, shooters may not use metal targets, metal target frames or metal stands/bases. Target stands and backers are to be made from wood, PVC and/or cardboard or some other material type that will not cause ricochets. Non-metal containers such as plastic jugs may be used as targets provided the shooter cleans up/disposes of all debris afterwards.

Shooters should line their target stands up in line with their firing position to ensure that they will no cross-fire into adjoining lanes. Targets/stands may be placed at almost any distance provided that the bullet impact into the ground is at 25 yards or beyond.

When you are finished your range session, it is your responsibility to retrieve target stands from down range and neatly stack them back in the target shed from which they were taken. Remove and properly dispose of the paper targets from the backers. Sweep up all spent ammo cases with the brooms/dustpans provided and place into recycling receptacles located along the posts.

TARGET TYPES PERMITTED

• Paper targets on target stands

• Steel reactive targets suspended from a non-metal frame in good repair for rimfire rifles/pistols. Targets must deflect bullet downward upon impact. Also, muzzle loading black powder rifles/pistols and black powder cartridge rifles firing low-velocity all lead bullets may be used. These targets cannot be placed any closer than 25 yards from the firing line.

• Clay Pigeons if set on the dirt backstop and placed no higher than 5 feet from the ground.

• Paper or plastic containers with or without water at a minimum distance of 25 yards providing that the shooter cleans up and disposes of the debris.

• Specific groups may use other types of targets during authorized competition shoots that are on the club calendar and authorized by the board of directors.

TARGET TYPES NOT PERMITTED

• No targets of opportunity such as birds & wildlife.

• No rocks are to brought onto the range to hold down targets.

• No steel targets are to be used by center fire rifles or pistols.

• No explosive targets are allowed.

• No junk targets or glass targets are allowed.

• Target stands/backers that hold clay targets are restricted for use and may only be used when placed in one of the following approved areas.

Pistol range placement will only be at the base of the 50 yard berm.

Rifle range placement will be at either the base of the 170 yard berm or the base of the 200 yard backstop.
